Facial Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Cosmetic acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment that supports both facial appearance and overall wellbeing. Each session is individualized and may include facial and body acupuncture, working with the body’s natural systems of balance, circulation, and regulation. Treatments are designed to support a natural, healthy glow and healthy aging, while also addressing underlying patterns that may influence stress, sleep, digestion, and vitality.

Cosmetic Acupuncture FAQ

  • Cosmetic acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine based treatment that combines facial and body acupuncture to support both facial appearance and overall wellbeing.

Unlike treatments that focus only on the face, cosmetic acupuncture considers the whole person. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the face is viewed as a reflection of internal health, so treatment plans are designed to support both visible concerns and the underlying patterns that may influence them.

  • Darla’s cosmetic acupuncture treatments are grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine and informed by postgraduate training in cosmetic acupuncture, including Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture. Treatments are designed with a whole-body perspective, supporting internal balance and facial appearance together to encourage a natural, healthy glow from within.

Treatments are individualized and may incorporate facial acupuncture, body acupuncture, herbal medicine recommendations, lifestyle guidance, topical facial care, and supportive LED red light therapy when appropriate.

Each treatment is tailored to the individual’s goals, constitution, and overall health.

  • Facial acupuncture uses very fine needles placed in specific areas of the face. The needles are inserted into the dermis, the layer of the skin where collagen and elastin are produced and where much of the skin’s blood supply is located.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, treatment also focuses on supporting circulation, balance, and overall health. Because cosmetic acupuncture typically includes both facial and body acupuncture, many patients appreciate the comprehensive nature of treatment.

  • No. Cosmetic acupuncture treatments typically include both facial and body acupuncture.

Traditional Chinese Medicine views the face as part of an interconnected whole. For this reason, treatment often addresses factors such as stress, sleep, digestion, circulation, and hormonal balance alongside facial concerns.

  • Treatment begins with a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment and discussion of your goals.

Sessions may include facial acupuncture, body acupuncture, topical facial care, and supportive LED red light therapy during treatment. Herbal medicine and lifestyle recommendations may also be provided when appropriate.

Many patients find treatments deeply relaxing.

  • Recommendations vary based on your goals, age, lifestyle, and overall health.

Some patients choose occasional treatments, while others prefer a more structured series. Traditional cosmetic acupuncture protocols may involve multiple treatments over several weeks, followed by periodic maintenance sessions.

Your treatment plan will be discussed and tailored to your individual needs.

  • Please arrive with a clean face whenever possible and avoid applying facial makeup before treatment (eye makeup is okay).

Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or very hot showers immediately before your appointment. Sunscreen can be applied after treatment but should be avoided before.

If you take blood-thinning medications or supplements, please continue taking them as prescribed and discuss any concerns with your physician. Never discontinue medications without medical guidance.

  • Patients who have received Botox, dermal fillers, or other cosmetic injectables are welcome to discuss timing during their consultation.

Cosmetic acupuncture works within the tissues of the face to support circulation and overall skin health. For this reason, timing between injectables and cosmetic acupuncture may be an important consideration, and recommendations can vary depending on the type of injectable, the area treated, and individual goals.

In many cases, patients choose to begin cosmetic acupuncture once the effects of injectables have softened or as part of a longer-term approach to skin health and facial balance.

If you are unsure about timing or whether cosmetic acupuncture is right for you, you are welcome to book a Free 15-Minute Discovery Call or begin with an Initial Acupuncture Visit so we can review your goals and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
